BPD Wirobrajan Cash Office Engulfed in Fire

The cash office of Bank BPD on Jalan Kapten Piere Tendean, Wirobrajan, caught fire on Thursday (12 March) evening. Local residents reported hearing an explosion before the fire occurred.

A local resident, Pribadi, stated that he heard an explosion at approximately 20:45 WIB.

“As soon as the explosion was heard, all the lights along Jalan Kapten Tendean went out,” Pribadi explained when contacted on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Following the explosion, according to Pribadi, flames were visible above the BPD office. However, he noted that the fire was quickly brought under control.

“The transformer has already been extinguished, the front part of the bank is still ablaze because the facade appears to be made of plastic or gypsum. The upper part of the bank burned, the facade towards the back,” he said.

When asked for confirmation, Taokhid, Head of the Yogyakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Damkarmat), confirmed the incident. However, he was unable to provide complete details at the time.

“I have not yet received a complete report. Preliminary information indicates the BPD Cash Office. The fire has been brought under control, thankfully the area affected is only approximately 20 per cent,” Taokhid said when contacted.
