Bank BPD DIY is once again organising the Malioboro Run for the fifth time this year. Malioboro Run 2026, which will take place in the Malioboro area, Yogyakarta City, on Sunday morning (4/10/2026), carries the theme ‘Culture on Track’.

Malioboro Run has been held for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2025. In this year’s event, Bank BPD DIY is adopting the ‘Dwi Tunggal Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta’ concept, representing the joint leadership between Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono of the Kasultanan Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat as the Governor of DIY and KGPAA Paku Alam of the Kadipaten Pakualaman as the Vice Governor of DIY in maintaining the special status of Yogyakarta.

This concept is rooted in the Mandate of 5 September 1945 and is reinforced through Law Number 13 of 2012 concerning the Special Status of DIY. The ‘Culture on Track’ theme is realised through a race route that passes several of Yogyakarta’s heritage icons. Participants will traverse Jalan Malioboro, Zero Kilometer Point, Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadorith, Pura Pakualaman, five Plengkung Benteng Baluwarti, Tamansari, Pasar Ngasem, Panggung Krapyak, and Tugu Pal Putih.

Through this route, participants are not only competing in a race but are also invited to learn about the history and culture of Yogyakarta through a visual experience while running.

In this year’s implementation, Bank BPD DIY has introduced several developments compared to previous years. One of these is the use of a new route certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), which passes the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat and Pura Pakualaman as a representation of the Dwi Tunggal concept.

Additionally, all finishers in the Half Marathon (21K) category will receive a finisher jacket. Malioboro Run 2026 also features a more diverse range of talkshow programmes during the Race Pack Collection (RPC), as well as a performance by guest star Biru Baru.

Malioboro Run 2026 is being participated in by more than 8,000 runners from various regions in Indonesia. Participants are divided into three categories: Half Marathon (21K), 10K, and 5K.

The Marketing Director of Bank BPD DIY, Raden Agus Trimurtyanto, stated that Malioboro Run will provide an interesting experience for runners, especially those from outside DIY. It is noted that 70 per cent of the event’s registrants are runners from outside the DIY region.

“Sport tourism is one of the vital pulses of tourism today. We hope that the arrival of thousands of runners from various places to Yogyakarta can contribute positively and act as a lever for the regional economy of DIY, particularly in the tourism, hospitality, culinary, and SME sectors,” he said during a press conference in the Benteng Vredeburg area, Yogyakarta, on Friday (2/10/2026).

Participant registration has been open since 15 July 2026 via the website maliobororun.id, with non-cash payment methods using QRIS or virtual accounts. Participants receive various facilities, including a race jersey, a special finisher jacket for the 21K category, a finisher medal, a BIB Number equipped with a timing chip, refreshments, insurance, and an e-certificate.

To support the safety and security of participants, Bank BPD DIY is collaborating with several hospitals in DIY, namely RSUP Dr. Sardjito, RS Bethesda, and RS JIH, as well as the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

From the total number of participants, approximately 70 per cent originate from outside DIY. This condition is expected to provide a positive impact on the regional economy, particularly the tourism, hospitality, culinary, and SME sectors.

The total prize pool prepared for Malioboro Run 2026 reaches Rp 212 million for the winners in each category and participant group.

Marketing Director of Bank BPD DIY, R. Agus Trimurjanto, added that the organisation of Malioboro Run is one of Bank BPD DIY’s efforts to help introduce the culture and history of Yogyakarta through the concept of sport tourism.

“Through the ‘Culture on Track’ theme and the Dwi Tunggal concept, Malioboro Run 2026 is expected not only to be a sporting event but also to serve as a means to introduce the values of Yogyakarta’s special status, encourage regional economic growth, and increase non-cash transaction literacy among the community,” he said.

To support SME partners while also encouraging non-cash transactions, Bank BPD DIY is also presenting the “Cashback MAMPIR” programme. This programme provides 65 per cent cashback with no minimum transaction when paying using QRIS BPD DIY Mobile.

The Cashback MAMPIR programme is applicable at merchants located in the Race Pack Collection area, Race Village, and 23 legendary culinary spots in Yogyakarta during the period of 2–4 October 2026.
