BPBPK: Community-Based Infrastructure Programme Targets Four Sub-Districts in Sorong City

The West Papua and Southwest Papua Settlement and Area Infrastructure Agency (BPBPK) has stated that a community-based infrastructure development programme in 2026 will target four sub-districts in Sorong City, as an effort to improve settlement quality and basic infrastructure. Head of the West Papua and Southwest Papua BPBPK, Corneles Sagrim, in Sorong on Wednesday, said the programme’s implementation has now entered the socialisation phase to provide the community with an understanding of the technical provisions for carrying out the activities. “This socialisation is conducted so that the community, especially the target groups, understand the technical rules so that at the implementation stage the programme can proceed according to the provisions,” he said. He explained that the four sub-districts targeted are Suprau, Tanjung Kasuari, Sawagumu, and Tampa Garam in Maladumes District. According to Corneles, the programme was proposed through the aspiration channel of a member of the House of Representatives’ Commission V and subsequently followed up by the Ministry of Public Works by determining the implementation locations. “The proposed locations were then coordinated with the Sorong City Government for verification based on readiness criteria before the programme is executed,” he stated. He added that besides field verification, the local government is also required to complete administrative requirements, one of which is a statement letter of willingness to accept assets signed by the Mayor of Sorong. This document, he said, is one of the requirements for the administrative verification process to be declared compliant and for the programme to be implemented. Corneles said the programme’s implementation is now entering the stage of forming Community Groups (Pokmas) that will act as the executors of activities in the field. “The Pokmas will later be assisted by community facilitator personnel who have signed work contracts with the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) so that the facilitation process can run from the start of implementation,” he explained. Meanwhile, the West Papua and Southwest Papua BPBPK will continue to conduct regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure all stages of the activity proceed according to technical guidelines and applicable regulations. He added that the type of infrastructure to be built in each sub-district will be determined based on the results of field surveys and the needs of the beneficiary community. “Through this survey, the priority needs of the community will be identified so that the development carried out truly matches the conditions and needs on the ground,” he said.
