BPBD Tanah Bumbu Detects Three Hotspots Across Three Sub-districts
The Tanah Bumbu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in South Kalimantan Province detected three hotspots on Tuesday afternoon (25/8). The findings were monitored through the Forest and Land Fire Monitoring System (SiPongi) application across three different sub-districts.
Head of BPBD Tanah Bumbu, H. Sulhadi, representing Regent Andi Rudi Latif, stated that the first hotspot was detected at 00:56 WITA. The exact location was in Sebamban Baru Village, Sungai Loban Sub-district, at coordinates latitude -3.62183 and longitude 115.61481 with medium confidence status.
“At the same time, one hotspot was also found in Mangkalapi Village, Teluk Kepayang Sub-district, and one hotspot in Satui Barat Village, Satui Sub-district, with the same medium confidence level,” said Sulhadi in Batulicin on Tuesday.
Following up on these findings, the land-based forest and land fire task force was immediately deployed to conduct direct checks at the incident locations (groundcheck). This step was taken to ascertain whether the hotspots represent actual land fires or heat generated by other objects.
Sulhadi explained that if a fire is confirmed, officers will immediately carry out rapid extinguishing measures to prevent the flames from spreading. However, if the heat originates from reflections off zinc roofs or houses due to extreme weather, officers will issue advisories to the public to be aware of the effects of scorching temperatures.
BPBD Tanah Bumbu is committed to continuously reducing forest and land fire cases in the region nicknamed “Bumi Bersujud”. Based on data from July to August 2026, the forest and land fire task force has successfully extinguished fires covering 52.25 hectares spread across various points in Tanah Bumbu.
In addition to monitoring new hotspots, field teams also successfully extinguished fires at three follow-up fire locations, namely in Danau Indah Village (Batulicin Sub-district), as well as Batu Ampar Village and Sarigadung Village (Simpang Empat Sub-district), with a total handled land area reaching seven hectares.
“Forest and land fire extinguishing operations in this region continue to be intensified so that burned land does not expand further,” concluded Sulhadi.
