BPBD: Strong Winds Expected in Babel Until June 2026
The weather in the past two days has been unpredictable, with rapid changes. In hot weather conditions, clouds suddenly appear, followed by rain accompanied by strong winds, causing trees to fall and damaging people’s homes.
Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province has put its rapid response team on alert to anticipate strong winds and tornadoes caused by the El Nino phenomenon in the area.
“We urge the public to be aware of this rain accompanied by strong winds, as it can endanger safety,” said the Head of BPBD of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Budi Utama, in Pangkalpinang on Sunday.
He stated that the El Nino phenomenon is a trigger for changes in wind patterns and extreme rainfall in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, which is expected to occur until June 2026. This can cause trees to fall, damage buildings, and billboards to be blown down by strong winds.
He cited an example of an incident where three residents’ homes were damaged when struck by fallen trees and roof damage occurred due to a tornado in the Kejaksaan sub-district, Pangkalpinang City.
“Rain is common, but it is the combination with strong winds that should be watched out for, as it can endanger people who are active outdoors,” he said.
In addition, residents are advised not to park vehicles under trees, as they may be hit by fallen trees due to strong winds.
“We don’t want a repeat of past incidents where several residents’ vehicles parked under trees were damaged by falling trees,” said Budi Utama.
