BPBD Situbondo Distributes Clean Water to Drought-Affected Villages
The Situbondo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in East Java has begun distributing clean water to villages affected by drought during this year’s dry season.
The Head of the Situbondo BPBD, Timbul Surjanto, stated on Tuesday that BPBD officers have been distributing clean water since last week to affected areas, specifically Gunung Putri Village in the Suboh District.
“Last week, we carried out the distribution of clean water after the village government requested assistance because spring water sources have begun to diminish,” he said.
Timbul continued that the distribution to Gunung Putri Village, Suboh District, was conducted via two shipments using water tankers with a capacity of 5,000 litres per location or hamlet to meet the community’s clean water needs.
According to him, the BPBD is also collaborating with the Situbondo Regency Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the local water utility company (PDAM) to distribute clean water to several other villages experiencing water shortages.
He added that, based on last year’s data, seven districts experienced clean water shortages as spring water sources decreased entering the dry season.
“We continue to refer to last year’s data regarding the villages experiencing clean water shortages for the daily needs of the community,” he said.
According to 2025 data, the drought-affected areas include Krajan and Jembaran Hamlets in Palangan Village (Sumbermalang District), North Sokaan Hamlet in Gunung Putri Village (Suboh District), and Polay Hamlet in Jatisari Village (Arjasa District).
