BPBD: River Overflow Flooding in Pidie Jaya Gradually Receding
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh Province, said flooding caused by the overflow of the Krueng (River) Meureudu is gradually receding.
“The overflow flooding occurred on Saturday evening (2/14) and is now gradually subsiding,” said Acting Head of the Pidie Jaya BPBD Okta Handipa when contacted from Banda Aceh on Sunday.
He said the flooding was caused by the Krueng Meureudu overflowing following heavy rainfall in the river’s upstream area. Previously, the Krueng Meureudu had also overflowed when hydrometeorological disasters struck Pidie Jaya Regency in late November 2025.
“In addition, a levee has also breached again. The levee had previously been repaired after it broke during the disaster in late November 2025. Now it has breached again, causing flooding,” he said.
Several villages in the Krueng Meureudu watershed were affected by flooding with water levels reaching 1.5 meters. The floodwaters are now gradually receding, leaving only a few centimeters of standing water in some areas.
Okta Handipa said the villages affected by the overflow flooding include Gampong (Village) Blang Awe, Seunong, Pante Beureune, Dayah Usien, and Beringin. These flood-affected villages were also previously hit by the hydrometeorological disaster.
The flooding only involved rising water and did not carry mud like the flash floods of late November 2025.
“No residents evacuated due to the Krueng Meureudu overflow flooding, because many residents from several villages along the Krueng Meureudu watershed have been in shelters since the hydrometeorological disaster in late November 2025,” Okta Handipa said.
