BPBD responds swiftly as floods hit 3,176 households in Grobogan
“Flooding occurred on Thursday night (April 2), inundating 16 villages across five sub-districts, namely Kedungjati, Tanggungjarjo, Gubug, Tegowanu, and Purwodadi,” BPBD Head Wahyu Tri Darmawanto remarked in Grobogan on Friday.
He underlined quick responses, noting that the agency had deployed personnel to work with volunteers, residents, and local authorities to overcome the disaster, which was triggered by heavy rainfall from afternoon to evening that caused the Tuntang, Serang, and Kliteh Rivers to overflow.
Elaborating on the impact, Darmawanto noted that Kedungjati Sub-district was the hardest hit, with floodwaters reaching 10-50 centimeters and affecting 2,102 families across nine villages.
“Beyond inundation, the floods also caused minor damage to 11 homes, including those in Ngombak and Kedungjati Villages,” he said.
The BPBD chief added that floodwaters rose to as high as 60 centimeters in two villages in Gubug Sub-district, impacting some 814 households. In Tegowanu Sub-district, around 200 homes were inundated, forcing an elementary school to suspend activities.
He added that in Tanggungharjo Sub-district, the overflowing Kliteh River affected 60 households in Sugihmanik Village and disrupted traffic in Mrisi Village.
Meanwhile, in Purwodadi Sub-district, floodwaters measuring 20-25 centimeters submerged a 100-meter section of road in Candisari Village.
Furthermore, Darmawanto highlighted that the BPBD had deployed necessary tools and equipment to flooded areas and initiated collaborative efforts to reinforce the Tuntang River embankment in Ringinharjo Village, Gubug.
“Some residents have resumed activities as most floodwaters have receded. Nevertheless, we urge the public to remain vigilant, given the continued risk of heavy rainfall,” he said.
