BPBD Reports 35 Flood-Affected Homes in Parigi Moutong
The Central Sulawesi Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded approximately 35 homes affected by flooding in Parigi Moutong Regency due to heavy rainfall. BPBD Head of Operations Asbudianto in Palu on Tuesday stated that the floods occurred in Antosari Hamlet, Balinggi Jati Village, Balinggi District, and Hamlet 8, Tolai Village, Torue District, on Monday (25 May) evening. He explained that heavy rain caused the Tapeau River’s water level to rise, breaching three sections of the river embankment in Balinggi Jati Village, submerging residential areas, rice fields, fish ponds, and village access roads. BPBD recorded around 30 homes affected in Balinggi Jati Village, with water still inundating the area. Five homes were affected, with eight households (29 people) impacted. The flooding temporarily rendered the Trans-Sulawesi Road impassable due to high water levels. Asbudianto said flooding in Tolai Village has subsided, and the Trans-Sulawesi Road is now passable. Asbudianto added that the Central Sulawesi BPBD, together with Parigi Moutong Regency’s Rapid Response Team (TRC), conducted assessments and coordinated with local village officials and residents. The BPBD confirmed no casualties or evacuees in the incident. He stated that urgent needs in Balinggi Jati Village include repairing and reinforcing the three breached river embankments, while in Tolai Village, drainage channel normalization alongside the Trans-Sulawesi Road is required to mitigate future flood risks.
