BPBD reports 12 homes damaged by flash flood in Parimo

Palu (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reported that around 12 houses in Avolua Village, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, were damaged by a flash flood that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

“Preliminary data shows approximately 68 families have been affected by the flash flood,” said Acting Head of BPBD Parigi Moutong Moh Rivai when contacted from Palu on Wednesday.

As a result, traffic on the Trans Sulawesi road in Avolua Village, North Parigi District, experienced congestion, and officers are continuing efforts to manage the emergency conditions.

“Currently around 12 families have been forced to evacuate because their homes were damaged and buried in mud,” he said.

Preliminary data from the rapid assessment conducted by the rapid reaction team (TRC) of BPBD Parigi Moutong recorded 12 damaged houses, 50 houses submerged in mud, damage to a durian factory fence, and a road surface covered in mud for approximately 500 metres.

“There were no fatalities in the incident. Approximately 103 people have been affected. The local government is currently continuing efforts to carry out emergency response,” said Rivai.

He said the TRC is continuing to collect data on public facilities, agricultural land, fisheries, and residents affected by the hydrometeorological disaster. The data presented at this time may change at any time based on the situation on the ground.

The government is also accelerating follow-up handling based on urgent needs, including clean water, ready-to-eat food logistics, evacuation tents, river normalisation, and cleaning of houses submerged in mud.

“Currently, handling on the ground is assisted by BPBD personnel, the Indonesian National Armed Forces and National Police, village officials, and local residents. It is possible that volunteers may also enter to help,” he said.
