BPBD records ten villages in Cirebon flooded as rivers overflow
A flood began around 23:15 WIB when water entered residential areas in several parts of Cirebon Regency. Cirebon (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cirebon Regency, West Java, recorded ten villages in the area flooded due to heavy rain that triggered the overflowing of several rivers on Monday evening (18 May).
Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Cirebon Regency Nuggy Pranugrah Affandi in Cirebon, on Tuesday, said the flood event affected 421 households or 1,114 people.
‘The flood began around 23:15 WIB when water entered the housing areas in several parts of Cirebon Regency,’ he said.
He said the high-intensity rain with a prolonged duration in the Cirebon and Kuningan areas caused several rivers to overflow, among them Cipager River, Ciberes, Cisanggarung, Singaraja-Singaratu, Cisoka, Kalilunyu, and Cikalong.
According to him, the water levels at affected sites ranged from 20 to 150 cm, with the highest inundation in Lobunta Housing Estate, Banjarwangunan Village, Cirebon.
The agency also recorded 342 houses inundated, five public facilities affected, and a 200-metre road in Mertapada Kulon Village, Cirebon, also affected by the floods.
Nuggy said BPBD, together with related parties, immediately carried out emergency response after receiving reports from the public.
In addition, he said BPBD carried out a rapid assessment to quantify the number of affected people, the extent of damage, and the urgent needs of residents at the flood site.
‘TCoordination with all parties on the ground was also carried out so that flood response would be integrated and effective,’ he said.
Furthermore, he added, BPBD disseminated information on flood developments through social media, WhatsApp groups, and other communication channels so residents could receive up-to-date information.
He said the assessment results showed the urgent needs of residents after the flood included food, blankets, and sacks for temporary relief in the affected areas.
‘TThe flood conditions across all affected areas at present have receded and the evacuees have returned to their homes,’ he added.
