BPBD records 285 people in Parigi Moutong affected by earthquake

The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has recorded that 285 people, or 91 families, in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, were affected by a magnitude 6.7 earthquake. “The 285 affected individuals are spread across 19 villages in seven sub-districts,” said Moh Rivai, Acting Head of the Parigi Moutong BPBD, when contacted from Palu on Sunday. He explained that the data had undergone field assessment and would soon be finalised, then reported to the Central Sulawesi BPBD for further handling. The impact of the earthquake, which occurred on Tuesday (16/6), caused damage to infrastructure in the area, with 87 houses recorded as damaged: 83 with minor damage, 3 with moderate damage, and 1 with severe damage. Two government offices were also affected, along with one mosque, one church, one school, and two temples. “Five health facilities also sustained damage, with three buildings suffering minor damage and two others moderate damage,” he stated. He noted that during the emergency response period, which lasted from 17 to 23 June 2026, the Parigi Moutong Regency Government took accelerated measures, including field assessments and the distribution of disaster aid in the form of food logistics and other urgent necessities. “We have distributed all aid to the earthquake victims, totalling 100 packages, 25 of which came from BPBD and 75 from the Social Service. The aid was provided to meet the basic needs of the community,” he said. He added that during the emergency response period, the Parigi Moutong Regency Government did not open a health post, but instead maximised the use of existing health facilities (Puskesmas) in the affected areas. Meanwhile, the Sigi Regency BPBD reported that as of Saturday (20/6), the number of damaged houses due to the earthquake disaster in that area had reached 2,335 units, comprising 1,955 with minor damage, 226 with moderate damage, and 154 with severe damage. The total number of victims and affected individuals was 8,586 people from 2,775 families, with details including 17 seriously injured, 108 with minor injuries, and three fatalities.
