BPBD records 11 areas in Kendari affected by flooding
Kendari (ANTARA) - The Kendari Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has recorded 11 locations in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra), affected by flooding due to high rainfall that has lashed the area since Saturday night.
Head of Kendari City BPBD, Cornelius Padang, when met in Kendari on Sunday, stated that based on preliminary data, the flooding distribution covers residential areas, office zones, and rice field areas.
“Based on preliminary reports, there are 11 affected points,” said Cornelius Padang.
He mentioned that the distribution of the 11 flooding points includes two in Wuawua Sub-district, namely in Wuawua Ward and Bonggoeya Ward. Then, in Baruga Sub-district, there are three points, ranging from the Wanggu River area, housing complexes, to the main road in Lepo-lepo Ward, Baruga Sub-district.
Kendari Mayor Siska Karina Imran stated that the Kendari City Government (Pemkot) is coordinating with the central government to provide solutions for handling the flooding in the area.
“This indeed requires coordinated handling. In this case, the city government, provincial government, and central government, on how we can create solutions for handling this flooding,” explained Siska Karina Imran.
She explained that her side is currently coordinating with the Sultra Provincial Government (Pemprov) to find solutions for the affected residents.
“On behalf of the Kendari City Government, we extend our deepest apologies to all Kendari residents if until now the handling of the flooding has not been optimal, because this indeed requires strong collaboration across sectors and across levels of government,” added Siska.
