BPBD Palu Records 118 Damaged Infrastructures After 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake

Palu (ANTARA) - The Palu City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has recorded at least 118 damaged infrastructures in the Central Sulawesi capital following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday (16/6).

“Our released data is still provisional; our quick reaction team (TRC) continues to collect data and conduct field assessments for data updates,” said BPBD Palu Secretary Mohamad Issa Sunusi in Palu on Tuesday.

He detailed that the affected infrastructure includes 80 damaged houses, 40 of which are located in Tondo Sub-district, Mantikulore District, and 22 in Petobo Sub-district, South Palu District. “The damaged houses are spread across 11 sub-districts in 6 districts,” he said.

Damage also occurred to 12 public facilities including bridges, mosques, and churches, 10 office facilities, 2 educational facilities, and 6 business premises. “Of the 6 business premises, 4 are hotels. The 2 school facilities are infrastructure at SD Inpres 2 Palu and SMP Negeri 21 Palu,” he stated.

He explained that during the emergency response period, the Palu City Government conducted a feasibility assessment of the Palu III Bridge, which had been closed due to cracks, and it is now passable for vehicles. Assistance was also provided for patient evacuation at Anutapura Hospital Palu on the first day of the disaster, and cross-agency technical handling was carried out, covering both health and emergency logistics aspects.

“The Spatial Planning Agency has also identified the structure of affected office buildings, while the Housing and Settlement Agency (Perkim) has identified residents’ houses and permanent housing (huntap) that suffered damage,” said Issa.

The Central Sulawesi Provincial Government has declared an emergency response status through Governor’s Decree Number 300.2.1/199/BPBD-6-ST/2026, effective for seven days from 17 to 23 June 2026, covering the affected areas of Palu City, Sigi Regency, Parigi Moutong, and Poso.
