BPBD: Mountain Cliff Landslide Cuts Off Access to KAT Sikundo in West Aceh
Meulaboh (ANTARA) - The West Aceh Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has confirmed that road access to the remote indigenous community area (KAT) Sikundo in Pante Ceureumen District has been blocked by a landslide since Thursday to Friday (19-20 March) following heavy rain in the area.
“The road body is covered with material from the mountain cliff above the road,” said Acting Head of BPBD West Aceh Regency, Teuku Ronal, to ANTARA in Meulaboh on Friday night.
He stated that the landslide covering the access road to the KAT Sikundo area in Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency, is about 15 metres long. The impact has prevented the road to the location from being passable at present.
The West Aceh Regency Government is currently endeavouring to handle the landslide material blocking the road to the inland area.
“Currently, efforts are being made to remove the material by the West Aceh PUPR Team,” he said.
Teuku Ronal added that the landslide disaster in the area was caused by the high rainfall affecting several regions in West Aceh Regency, leading to the occurrence of the landslide.
In addition, the heavy downpour also caused residential areas in Jambak Village, Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency, to be inundated with water on Thursday night (19 March), he said.
