BPBD Klaten Handles 15 Forest and Land Fire Cases Across Seven Subdistricts

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Klaten Regency, Central Java, continues to intensify monitoring, prevention, and handling efforts for forest and land fires (karhutla). This measure is being carried out intensively to ensure swift and precise handling in affected areas.

According to a report from BPBD Klaten, seven subdistricts were affected by forest and land fires between 8 June and 20 July 2026. The total area of forest and land burned reached 165,289 square metres.

The Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Klaten, Anjung Daroji, revealed that 15 fire incidents occurred during that period. Objects burned included vacant land, bamboo groves, and forest areas.

"There were 15 forest and land fire incidents in Klaten. The objects burned were land, bamboo groves, and forests. There were no injuries or fatalities in these fires," Anjung stated on Thursday (23/7).

In detail, out of the 15 incidents, fires on vacant land dominated with 12 cases, scorching an area of 130,260 square metres. Additionally, there were two fire incidents in bamboo groves covering 28 square metres, and one forest fire incident covering an area of 35,000 square metres.

Responding to this situation, BPBD Klaten issued a stern appeal to the public to increase vigilance during the dry season. Residents are urged not to engage in activities that could trigger fires, such as burning forests, land, or rubbish carelessly.

"Report immediately if you find any hotspots or suspicious smoke. Let us protect the environment for our collective safety," Anjung concluded.
