BPBD: Five Families in Temporary Housing in Bener Meriah Relocated
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Bener Meriah District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has relocated five families residing in temporary housing (huntara) at Dry Port Ketipis, Kute Kering Village, Bukit Subdistrict, due to damage to the roofs of their units.
Bener Meriah District BPBD Chief Safriadi, contacted from Banda Aceh on Wednesday, stated that the temporary housing roofs for disaster victims were damaged by strong winds accompanied by a tornado that struck on Tuesday (24/3).
“The five families were relocated to empty huntara units. The roofs damaged by the tornado are being repaired by the vendor or contractor who built the huntara,” Safriadi said.
Previously, the roofs of five huntara units at Dry Port Ketipis, Kute Kering Village, Bukit Subdistrict, Bener Meriah District, were damaged by a tornado on Tuesday (24/3).
“The strong winds accompanied by the tornado occurred suddenly and did not last long. The incident briefly caused panic among several huntara residents. The roof damage varied, with some severe and others minor,” he said.
After the incident, Safriadi explained, the Bener Meriah District BPBD team was deployed to the location to assist the affected huntara residents. The team also helped relocate the belongings of huntara residents whose roofs were damaged by the tornado.
“There were no fatalities in the incident because the huntara units were empty as residents were celebrating Eid. The five huntara resident families were moved to empty units in the huntara for the time being,” Safriadi said.
