BPBD: Eight villages in Cilacap affected by drought

The Cilacap Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in Central Java had distributed 117,000 litres of clean water, equivalent to 24 tankers, to residents affected by drought in eight villages across six sub-districts as of 2 July 2026. Cilacap BPBD Chief Executive Taryo stated on Saturday that aid was distributed to Klumprit and Kedungbenda villages (Nusawungu Sub-district), Karangkemiri (Jeruklegi), Cinangsi (Gandrungmangu), Cimrutu and Rawaapu (Patimuan), Ujungalang (Kampunglaut), and Karangbenda (Adipala), reaching a total of 1,063 families or 3,942 individuals. “As of Thursday (2/7), the largest distribution was to Karangkemiri Village, Jeruklegi Sub-district, with 10 tankers. Meanwhile, Cinangsi, Cimrutu-Rawaapu, and Ujungalang villages each received three tankers, whilst Klumprit and Kedungbenda villages received two, and Karangbenda Village received one,” Taryo said. Based on rapid assessments by the BPBD and village governments, these areas are experiencing clean water limitations due to declining water source levels used by residents for their daily needs. In fact, some drought-affected residents in Bondan Hamlet, Ujungalang Village, Kampunglaut Sub-district, must fetch water from more distant locations using boats. He said the BPBD continues to monitor drought conditions across various areas of Cilacap Regency and has deployed water tanker fleets to meet community needs should the number of affected areas increase during the dry season. “We urge village governments and the community to immediately report if they experience difficulties obtaining clean water so that aid can be distributed quickly and on target,” Taryo said.
