BPBD: Eight villages in Cilacap affected by drought

The Cilacap Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cilacap Regency, Central Java, has distributed 117,000 litres of clean water, equivalent to 24 tankers, to residents affected by drought in eight villages across six districts as of 2 July 2026.

The Head of the Cilacap Regency BPBD, Taryo, stated in Cilacap on Saturday that the assistance was delivered to Klumprit and Kedungbenda villages (Nusawungu District), Karangkemiri (Jeruklegi), Cinangsi (Gandrungmangu), Cimrutu and Rawaapu (Patimuan), Ujungalang (Kampunglaut), and Karangbenda (Adipala). A total of 1,063 families, or 3,942 individuals, have received aid.

“As of Thursday (2/7), the largest distribution was provided to Karangkemiri Village, Jerukleggi District, with 10 tankers. Meanwhile, Cinangsi, Cimrutu-Rawaapu, and Ujungalang villages each received three tankers, while Klumprit and Kedungbenda villages received two tankers, and Karangbenda village received one tanker,” said Taryo.

Based on a rapid assessment conducted by the BPBD alongside village governments, he continued, these areas are experiencing clean water shortages due to the declining flow of water sources previously used by residents for daily needs.

He added that some residents affected by the drought in the Bondan Hamlet, Ujungalang Village, Kampunglaut District, are forced to fetch water from much further locations using boats.

He stated that the BPBD continues to monitor the development of drought conditions across various areas of Cilacap Regency and is keeping water tanker fleets on standby to meet community needs should the affected areas expand during the dry season.

“We urge village governments and the community to report immediately if they experience difficulties obtaining clean water so that assistance can be distributed quickly and accurately,” said Taryo.
