Denpasar (ANTARA) – The Bali Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded eight people swept away in a flash flood that struck Banjar Village, Buleleng, on Friday night (6 March). According to information from the Perbekel (village head) of Banjar at 06:30 WITA, the flash flood occurred at 20:00 WITA, with eight people swept away; four were rescued, three were still being searched for, and one person died.

Gede Teja Bhusana, the Acting Head of BPBD Bali, said he was en route to Banjar Village, specifically to the location of the three missing victims.

The four rescued victims were Banjar Ambengan residents: Kadek Witana (45), Made Putra (76), Nyoman Mudra (73), and Putu Suami (72).

The victim who died was Dewa Ketut Adi Suarjaya (55), a resident of Banjar Santal.

Kalaksa BPBD Bali explained that in the last 12 hours the disaster situation has shown many incidents, especially in Buleleng. From 18:00 to 06:00 WITA, there were 19 incidents, including floods in Banjar Village, floods in Pancasari, Kayuputih, Bubunan, Dencarik, Tampekan, Gobleg, Pedawa, and Lemukih.

In addition, extreme weather also caused landslides and fallen trees in Buleleng, including a landslide under Shortcut KM 18, Gitgit; a landslide blocking the driveway to a residents’ home in Bestala; a landslide that blocked the Singaraja–Denpasar main road; a landslide in Banyuseri.

Furthermore, the landslide embankment breached a resident’s home in Bestala; the Jembatan Tukad Pengangkidan bridge collapsed in Pedawa; and a embankment breached in Kalianget; homes damaged by rain and strong winds in Bestala; the Tukad Pengangkidan Bridge collapsed in Pedawa, and trees fell in Busungbiu.

Kalaksa BPBD Bali urged the public to remain vigilant as Tropical Cyclone Disturbances 90S, 93S and 92P may still exert indirect impacts on Bali.
