BPBD DKI Says Collapsed Wall in South Jakarta Caused by Unstable Soil Structure
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has stated that the wall which collapsed at SMPN 182 in South Jakarta was caused by unstable soil structure.
"Because the soil structure is unstable or consists of filled land, it caused the wall to collapse," said DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD Chief Executive Isnawa Adji in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that the wall collapse occurred on Sunday (15/2) at approximately 11.22 local time on Jalan Kalibata Timur 1 Raya, RT/RW 02/08, Kalibata Sub-district, Pancoran District, South Jakarta.
"A wall belonging to a resident, measuring 65 metres in length and 5.3 metres in height, suddenly collapsed towards SMPN 182 school," said Isnawa.
As a result of the incident, he said, a water channel became blocked. However, it was confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries. Losses resulting from the incident are still being assessed.
"The condition of the incident site and the debris is currently being handled by the Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA)," said Isnawa.
Meanwhile, the police are also still investigating allegations of negligence on the part of the school in connection with the collapse of the wall at SMPN 182 Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta.
"The investigation is still ongoing," said Pancoran Police Chief Kompol Mansur to reporters in Jakarta on Sunday (15/2).
His team is still conducting an investigation to determine the cause and chronology of the school wall collapse.
"It is known that the fence was already leaning beforehand," revealed Mansur.
Previously, the owner of the leaning wall had been issued a notification letter from the local community, but no further action was taken before it collapsed.
CCTV footage capturing the moment the school wall collapsed on Sunday (15/2) afternoon went viral on social media via the @jakartaselatan24jam account.
