BPBD Deploys Heavy Equipment to Handle Flooding in Jerowaru, East Lombok
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Lombok has deployed heavy equipment to address flooding in Jerowaru District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The heavy equipment is being used to normalise rivers and prevent secondary flooding in the area.
“We are repairing the water channels and the shallow river. The rain is still heavy, hopefully there will be no further flooding,” said Hadi Jayari, Head of Emergency Response at BPBD East Lombok, when contacted by detikBali on Wednesday (25 February 2026).
In addition to dredging sediment using heavy equipment, officers are also constructing drainage pipe channels. They are then installing pumps to accelerate the reduction of water discharge during heavy rainfall.
“Today we are installing pipes for drainage to the sea, hopefully this will reduce the water discharge. Today we are also bringing in a water extraction machine to drain the water that has accumulated in residential areas,” said Hadi.
Hadi explained that high rainfall over recent days triggered the flooding in the Jerowaru area. Consequently, dozens of residents’ homes were inundated and one school was damaged by the flooding.
“Yesterday the rain was quite heavy, so the water level in the reservoir rose. The river also overflowed into residents’ homes. Currently, one school has been damaged and dozens of residents have been affected by the flooding,” he concluded.
