BPBD Cianjur Records One House Damaged by Sukabumi Earthquake
Cianjur — The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, has recorded one residential house in Desa Sindanglaya, Kecamatan Pacet, damaged by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake centred in Sukabumi Regency but felt quite strongly in Cianjur.
BPBD Cianjur Secretary Asep Sudrajat said on Sunday that the house in Kecamatan Cipanas sustained damage to its walls, which peeled and cracked, forcing the owner and three family members to evacuate temporarily.
BPBD personnel and volunteers responded swiftly, assisted by village officials and local residents, to ensure the damaged house could be made habitable again after repairs.
“We have submitted a request for house repair assistance so that the owner can carry out repairs comprehensively, as most of the house walls have peeled and cracked significantly, causing the owner to feel anxious about returning home,” he said.
Data collection is still being conducted by personnel and volunteers surveying areas along the Cianjur-Sukabumi border that experienced quite strong earthquake tremors twice on Sunday early morning.
Meanwhile, the Large Centre for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region II Tangerang confirmed that the 4.2 magnitude earthquake located southeast of Sukabumi City resulted from activity along the Cimandiri Fault.
BMKG Region II Tangerang Chief Hartanto said that from the main earthquake on Sunday at 00:36 WIB until 09:00 WIB, BBMKG recorded two earthquake activities, with the second earthquake measuring 4.2 magnitude occurring at 03:42 WIB.
“The first earthquake occurred at 00:36 WIB with a magnitude of 4.2 and the epicentre was located at coordinates 6.97°S and 106.98°E, or precisely on land 8 kilometres southeast of Sukabumi City at a depth of 5 kilometres,” he said.
The second earthquake at 03:42 WIB had an epicentre in nearly the same location at a depth of 4 kilometres. Based on analysis considering the epicentre location and depth, the earthquakes were classified as shallow earthquakes resulting from Cimandiri Fault activity.
The first earthquake was felt by residents across several areas including Sukabumi City, Pelabuhan Ratu, Cianjur, Puncak, Kabupaten Bogor, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi, and Lembang.
