BPBD: 84 People Remain Displaced Due to Flooding in Serang City
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Serang City, Banten, reported on Monday that 84 people remain sheltered due to flooding that has not completely receded in several areas, particularly in Kasemen District.
Diat Hermawan, Acting Head of BPBD Serang City, stated that to date a total of 6,763 residents from 2,223 households have been affected by the hydrometeorological disaster.
“Current conditions show a receding trend at several points, such as in Serang and Cipocok Jaya Districts. However, in Kasemen District, water still inundates residential areas with varying water levels,” said Diat.
According to BPBD data, the most severely affected area is Manggerong Neighbourhood in Sawah Luhur Village, with water levels reaching 100 centimetres.
This has forced 22 households, comprising 84 people, to seek shelter in emergency tents set up by officers.
Beyond residential areas, the flooding has also inundated important public facilities such as Kasemen Primary Health Centre and Mirbath Syaja’ah Al Akhyar Islamic Boarding School.
Overall, said Diat, 20 flooding incidents have been recorded, affecting at least 528 houses across four districts.
“Apart from flooding, extreme weather has also caused four residential units to collapse in Serang and Walantaka Districts. The majority of damage occurred in kitchen and living room areas due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds,” said Diat.
BPBD Serang City personnel remain deployed at affected locations to carry out evacuations, monitor water discharge levels, and conduct further data collection. Although weather conditions show light rainfall, officers remain cautious about the potential for river water levels to rise.
BPBD has appealed to the public to remain vigilant regarding weather changes and always follow official information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and BPBD Serang City’s Call Centre to anticipate further disaster impacts.
