BPBD: 28,222 Residents Affected by Drought in Banyumas

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banyumas Regency, Central Java, has recorded 28,222 people from 8,371 families affected by drought across 37 villages/urban wards in 14 sub-districts throughout Banyumas.

“To handle the drought, we continue to distribute clean water to affected areas in need,” said Head of Banyumas Regency BPBD Dwi Irawan Sukma in Purwokerto on Monday.

According to data from the Banyumas Regency Command Post for Emergency Handling of Drought and Forest and Land Fires (Karhutla), as of 10 August 2026 the BPBD has carried out 233 trips delivering clean water with a total volume reaching 1,135,000 litres.

He said the clean water distribution is carried out to meet the basic needs of communities experiencing difficulty obtaining water due to reduced water source availability during the dry season.

Dwi said the BPBD, together with village and urban ward governments, continues to monitor affected areas to ensure the community’s clean water needs can be met.

“Clean water distribution will continue according to needs and developments in the field,” he said.

Similar incidents were also recorded in Sawangan Village in Ajibarang Sub-district; Gunungwetan Village and Pekuncen Village in Jatilawang Sub-district, as well as Purwokerto Kulon Urban Ward in South Purwokerto Sub-district.

“We urge the public to increase vigilance against potential fires during the dry season, including not burning rubbish or clearing land by burning. The public is also expected to report immediately if they find hotspots so they can be handled as early as possible and do not spread,” said Dwi Irawan.
