BP3OKP hopes construction of 2,200 houses from the president will proceed this year
Wamena (ANTARA) - The Badan Pengarah Percepatan Pembangunan Otonomi Khusus Papua (BP3OKP) Pegunungan hopes that the construction of 2,200 units of healthy homes from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto can proceed in 2026.
President Prabowo Subianto has issued a Presidential Instruction for the construction of 2,200 units of type 45 healthy homes for Papua Pegunungan and 200 units of type 90 homes for tribal leaders.
Chairman of BP3OKP Pegunungan Hantor Matuan, in a written statement in Wamena on Friday, said that the construction of 2,200 units of homes for the Papua Pegunungan region, covering eight districts, represents extraordinary attention from President Prabowo Subianto.
“We express our thanks and gratitude to the Almighty God because, among the many new autonomous regions or DOB in Indonesia, especially in Papua, the President has provided assistance to us; we certainly fully support it,” he said.
According to him, the assistance provided is a form of special attention from the state to Papua Pegunungan to accelerate infrastructure development in the area.
“For us, the assistance of 2,200 units of homes is not just ordinary aid, but serious attention given by the President to Papua Pegunungan, which is indeed very isolated compared to other regions in Indonesia,” he stated.
“According to us, this attention is a very good start in helping to improve the economy in Papua Pegunungan,” he said.
He added that the central government is also helping to improve transportation access with the 61-kilometre Jayapura-Wamena trans road this year.
“The road from Mamberamo Bridge to Elelim in Yalimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, spanning 61 kilometres, will be worked on this year. Once this road access is completed, it will greatly help the economy of Papua Pegunungan and reduce inflation in Papua Pegunungan,” he said.
Land travel using four- and six-wheeled vehicles carrying basic necessities (bapok) and other solid materials can take two to three weeks from Jayapura to Wamena. This is what causes the prices of basic necessities and other solid materials to be very high in Papua Pegunungan.
