BP3MI West Java Strengthens Prevention of Illegal Migrant Worker Departures

The West Java Migrant Worker Protection Service Centre (BP3MI) is strengthening efforts to prevent the illegal departure of migrant workers from the province, including Cianjur Regency, through socialisation and mapping at the village level. Head of BP3MI West Java, AKBP Singgih Hermawan, stated in Cianjur on Tuesday that Cianjur Regency ranks among the top three areas sending non-procedural migrant workers from West Java to various Middle Eastern countries, after Indramayu and Cirebon. Various efforts to reduce this number are being carried out together with the Cianjur Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), enabling proactive measures and public counselling through existing collaboration. “We will go down to the villages because the source of the problem is indeed in the villages, involving the local government, police, relevant agencies, and village administrations to detect residents who are potentially being sent abroad through non-procedural means,” he said. He expressed hope that the collaboration would map out citizens who are tempted or detect potential candidates for non-procedural deployment abroad, similar to the case experienced by Cianjur migrant worker Ai Juariah in Libya. “Regarding the detailed number of cases, we do not yet have the exact figure, but it is clear that Cianjur remains the third-largest source of non-procedural worker placements in West Java,” he said. Meanwhile, Cianjur migrant worker Ai Juariah was finally able to reunite with her family in Cianjur after various parties assisted her return to the country, which had been hindered by the country’s conflict. Ai was welcomed at the Cianjur Regent’s Office, accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of P2MI, Cianjur Police, the West Java Provincial PPA Office, the Cianjur Manpower Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and BP3MI, before returning to her home in Ciranjang District.
