Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Centre (BP3MI) Riau, Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan, stated that 56 Indonesian migrant workers were successfully rescued from an illegal departure to Malaysia on 18 April 2026.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) in Jakarta on Monday, the migrant workers were saved when the Medang Kampai Police Sector in Dumai thwarted a criminal act of human trafficking (TPPO) and the illegal placement of Indonesian migrant workers in the Medang Kampai area.

“This success demonstrates the good synergy between law enforcement agencies and the community in preventing TPPO practices and the non-procedural placement of Indonesian migrant workers,” said Fanny, while appreciating the swift action in saving citizens from potential exploitation.

The authorities also secured seven foreign nationals from Bangladesh in the operation.

Meanwhile, the legal process against the suspected parties is still in the investigation stage by the Dumai Police Resort law enforcement apparatus.

Fanny emphasised that BP3MI Riau will ensure that the Indonesian migrant workers receive protection, including data registration, assessment, and facilitation of their return to their home regions.

He also urged the public not to be easily tempted by non-procedural job offers abroad.

Fanny stated that the public can obtain information by visiting the nearest BP3MI office or accessing the siskop2mi.bp2mi.go.id website.

According to KP2MI, with the prevention disclosure in Medang Kampai, Dumai City, the total number of Indonesian migrant workers successfully rescued amounts to 93 people throughout 2026.
