BP BUMN Enhances State-Owned Enterprise Transparency with Tax Directorate General
Wakil Kepala Badan Pengaturan Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BP BUMN) Tedi Bharata has voiced support for increasing the transparency of state-owned enterprises’ transaction reports through data integration with the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) at the Ministry of Finance. “This commitment is an implementation that we are more open, that the Directorate General of Taxes must receive transaction reports earlier and more accurately,” Tedi said at the Kick Off Trial of the Co-Operative Compliance Programme with the Implementation of a Tax Control Framework and Tax Data Integration held at the DJP office in Jakarta on Monday. Tedi believes this move can support improved governance of BUMNs, enhance accountability, and subsequently lead to improved performance of the state-owned enterprises. The data integration of state-owned company transactions with the DJP begins with Pertamina, before being followed by other BUMNs. “This is the initial step for BUMNs, started by Pertamina, then Pelindo, then PLN,” Tedi stated. Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, Bimo Wijayanto, conveyed that the transaction data integration with BUMNs represents an evolution of the modern taxation system based on trust. Bimo said the implementation of transaction data integration with Pertamina is expected to be a springboard for other BUMNs, as well as private companies. Bimo stressed that the core of the transaction data integration between companies and the DJP is not to increase revenue, but to prevent ‘surprise’ taxes that were previously unknown due to investments, business development, or other transactions that were missed in reporting to the DJP. “The point is that there are no more ‘sudden surprises’ if it turns out there are transactions resulting from investments or business development that are unknown to the Directorate General of Taxes and possibly forgotten to be reported,” Bimo said.
