Batam (ANTARA) - The Batam Concession Agency (BP Batam) in the Riau Islands is prioritising improvements to infrastructure quality and public services through the maintenance of basic facilities, construction of an integrated school in Rempang, and the development of air transport links.

BP Batam head Amsakar Achmad said infrastructure development was an important foundation for strengthening regional connectivity, boosting investment competitiveness and supporting sustainable economic growth.

“BP Batam Service Day is an important opportunity to reflect on Batam’s development, evaluate performance, and renew our commitment to serving the public in order to make Batam more advanced and competitive,” Amsakar said in Batam on Monday.

He said that in 2026, BP Batam’s Directorate of Infrastructure Development was managing work packages across 12 sectors: clean water, airports, drainage, buildings, roads, bridges, areas, landscaping, ports, parks, sanitation and wastewater, and utilities.

“Alongside new infrastructure development, routine maintenance is also being carried out at 182 sites across nine sub-districts. The work includes road repairs, resurfacing, channel clearance and measures to address waterlogging,” he said.

In education, BP Batam is also supporting the construction of the Merah Putih Integrated School in Rempang.

“We held the first piling ceremony on 24 September 2026 on a site covering 18.5 hectares,” Amsakar said.

The school is planned to provide education from primary to secondary level, with learning facilities and boarding accommodation.

“The school will be prioritised for high-achieving children and families in need, including children from the Rempang and Galang communities,” he said.

In air transport, BP Batam is also expanding connectivity through Hang Nadim International Airport.

“One recent initiative was the launch of the Batam-Penang, Malaysia, flight route on 18 October 2026, operated by Batik Air Malaysia three times a week,” he said.

Amsakar said the route was the result of collaboration with PT Bandara Internasional Batam to expand transport access, increase tourist arrivals, make travel easier for businesspeople and create opportunities for international economic cooperation.

He added that BP Batam was maximising non-tax state revenue to support regional development without additional funding from the central government’s state budget (APBN).

“This achievement is historic, as this year BP Batam has been able to rely on non-tax state revenue to support regional development without additional APBN funding from the central government,” he said.

The funds are directed towards developing strategic areas, expanding free-trade and free-port zones, improving licensing services, and building port and airport infrastructure and drinking-water systems.

At BP Batam Service Day 2026, held under the theme “Batam Advances, Investment Accelerates”, Amsakar reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening regional development while increasing its benefits for the public.
