The Batam Concession Agency (BP Batam) in the Riau Islands is partnering with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to strengthen research aimed at safeguarding water resource security and encouraging sustainable industrial development in the region.

BP Batam Member/Deputy for Strategic Policy and Licensing Sudirman Saad stated that this collaboration is vital for maintaining the availability of water resources, which are a primary need for both the community and businesses.

“We have neither forests nor rivers. The water supply depends entirely on rainwater collected in eight reservoirs. Therefore, innovation, digitalisation, and the management of water catchment areas are extremely urgent needs. Research support from BRIN will be very important for Batam’s sustainability,” Sudirman said in an official statement received in Batam on Monday.

According to him, as a growing industrial and investment area, Batam requires research and innovation support so that resource management can be carried out more effectively, efficiently, and sustainably.

BRIN Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilisation R. Hendrian said the scope of cooperation covers a number of strategic issues, ranging from the development of the Batam Science and Technology Park, energy and water resource management, circular technology, and sustainable maritime industry to green industry.

“We hope that BRIN’s research and innovation results can make a real contribution to Batam. The various potentials must be realised into solutions that can be utilised by the community and the industrial world,” he said.

BRIN Director of Research and Innovation Partnership Asep Riswoko added that this collaboration involves seven research projects from five BRIN research centres, as well as three technical units from BP Batam.
