BP Batam: International direct calls at Batu Ampar surge by 212 per cent
The Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam) has reported that the number of international direct calls at the Batu Ampar Container Terminal (TPK) increased by 2t12 per cent year-on-year during the January-May 2026 period. Denny Tondano, Deputy of Business Affairs at BP Batam, stated that this development proves Batam’s strengthening position within regional logistics networks, particularly along the international trade routes of the Malacca Strait.
“The international direct call network at TPK Batu Ampar currently reaches at least seven major Asian countries. This connectivity is a vital factor in improving supply chain efficiency and reinforcing Batam’s role as an integrated logistics, trade, and industrial centre connected to global markets,” Denny said in an official statement. He noted that the number of international direct calls reached 106 during the January-May 2026 period, a significant rise from the 34 calls recorded during the same period in 2025. Container volume also saw a substantial boost, rising 125 per cent to 58,237 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) from 25,904 TEUs in the previous year.
This increase in vessel visits and container volume serves as an indicator of the growing competitiveness of Batam’s ports in supporting international trade flows and regional logistics connectivity. BP Batam remains committed to enhancing port service quality alongside management partners, including terminal facility development, service digitalisation, and collaboration with international shipping lines to open new routes that add value to both regional and national economies.
Benny Syahroni, Director of Port Management and Administration at BP Batam, added that these achievements reflect growing international confidence in the services and facilities at TPK Batu Ampar. He noted that the growth is supported by increased frequencies from existing lines and the arrival of new services. While international direct services in the January-May 2025 period were limited to SITC and Evergreen, the network has been strengthened by the addition of Samudera and COSCO Shipping.
Specifically, SITC provided 55 calls with a volume of 32,266 TEUs, Evergreen accounted for 30 calls with 14,792 TEUs, Samudera contributed 11 calls with 7,103 TEUs, and COSCO Shipping provided 10 calls with 4,077 TEUs. According to Benny, these new services expand connectivity options for businesses and provide better efficiency in the distribution of both exports and imports. “The increasing number of shipping lines opening direct calls to Batu Ampar Container Terminal provides tangible benefits for the business community by shortening delivery times, increasing schedule certainty, and reducing logistics costs. This will undoubtedly support industrial competitiveness and investment in Batam,” he concluded.
