Batam (ANTARA) - The Batam Development Agency (BP Batam), Kepulauan Riau (Kepri), is accelerating local transmigration to Rempang Eco City, recording a total of 242 households or 842 souls who have occupied the new residential area. Member/Deputy for Public Services of BP Batam, Ariastuty Sirait, explained that this process is part of BP Batam’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Transmigration’s programme. “This is part of BP Batam’s commitment that prioritises the concept of local transmigration in efforts to support Rempang’s development,” she said in an official statement received in Batam on Thursday. “We hope that the Rempang Eco-City area can become a new environment that is more comfortable and productive for the community, while opening up greater economic opportunities for future generations,” Ariastuty stated. Since early May, 11 households or 31 individuals have moved to the new area. In detail, 3 households shifted on 5 May 2026, followed by 4 households on 11 May 2026 and 3 households the next day. “Residents who have moved to Rempang Eco-City receive new habitable homes and accompaniment during the adaptation process in the new environment,” she said. It is not just about relocating the population; BP Batam, together with related agencies, is also striving to create a new economic centre through this programme. “With investments in Rempang, we want the industries that arrive to be able to absorb local labour. Thus, the community’s economic level will also grow with the presence of investments in their village,” she said.
