Boys drown in river

LAHAT, South Sumatra: Two boys drowned while swimming in the Lematang River as their father watched helplessly, Antara reported.

The two siblings, Edi (10 years old) and Toni, were accompanying their father, Suryadi, who was washing his motorcycle on the riverbank on Monday.

They asked for permission to swim. The father consented, warning them not to go too far into the water.

Later Suriyadi heard his two sons screaming for help as they were being swept away by a strong current. He swam after them but was unable to reach them. He then went for help.

The bodies of the two boys were found later that night at two separate locations. (emb)
