Boyamin Urges Continuation of Hoegeng Awards: Many Good Cops Still Exist
Boyamin Saiman, Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), has expressed his appreciation for the 2026 Hoegeng Awards, stating his hope that the event will continue.
“Without these awards, how could such figures be revealed and publicised like this? Therefore, let this continue; it is part of the journalistic duty and our collective duty to provide enlightenment to everyone, especially the police force, that many good people still exist there. At the very least, if there are rogue officers intending to act poorly, they might be deterred upon seeing this,” said Boyamin at The Tribrata Darmawangsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (31/07/2026).
Boyamin mentioned that the Hoegeng Awards are capable of bringing forward exemplary police figures from all corners of the country. In his view, the dedication and service of these exemplary officers serve as an effort towards improving national governance.
“When these awards showcase individuals from far-flung areas and their various services, it becomes an effort to improve governance. Although the percentage may not be very large yet, at least it is an endeavour that can contribute to governance improvements,” he added.
Furthermore, he praised Kombes Norul Hidayat, the recipient of the 2026 Hoegeng Award in the Integrity Police category. He argued that idealistic figures like Kombes Norul should be widely recognised and highlighted, rather than being marginalised.
“If we can showcase this, then more idealistic people will feel recognised. Sometimes, intelligent, high-integrity, and dedicated individuals simply need to feel appreciated. For a long time, it felt as though such idealistic people were being marginalised. Now, this initiative is able to lift them out of that isolation,” he remarked.
