Boy who drowned in Ciliwung in Depok found among rubbish nets in South Jakarta

Afik Rabani Ramadhan, the boy who drowned in the Ciliwung River in Depok, West Java, was found among garbage nets in South Jakarta on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

‘The team received information from BKSDA (Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam) TB Simatupang regarding the discovery of a body lying prone among the garbage nets,’ said Desiana Kartika Bahari, Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, in a written statement on Tuesday.

After being transported to a safe location, the body of the boy was identified as Afik, who had been swept away by the current in the Ciliwung River in Pancoran Mas, Depok, on Sunday afternoon (17 May 2026).

Desiana said Afik was located about 24.5 kilometres from the incident site, and the team moved to the discovery location within a 24.5-kilometre radius to evacuate him to the riverbank.

‘The boy sank and was carried by a current that was both strong and deep at the time.’

‘This friend asked passers-by who were fishing for help, but the victim did not survive because of the current’s strength,’ said Denny, who confirmed the details to Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Tuesday.
