Boy Rafli: Strengthen social solidarity amidst global pressures
It is undeniable that today’s situation is full of pressure, both from global and domestic factors. In fact, it is in situations like this that the value of family becomes the main defence.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Police Commissioner General (retired) Boy Rafli Amar, emphasised the importance of strengthening togetherness and social solidarity in the face of current global pressures.
“We cannot close our eyes to the fact that today’s situation is full of pressure, both from global and domestic factors. In fact, it is in situations like this that the value of family becomes the main defence,” said Boy in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
This was conveyed by Boy when delivering his speech at the “Silaturahmi Tanpa Batas” event held by the Ikatan Alumni SMA 37 Jakarta (Ikasman 37).
The activity served as a forum for intergenerational gatherings and a space for collective reflection in the face of various pressures faced by the nation, both from global dynamics and domestic issues.
“We are a great nation, but that strength will crumble if we do not take care of each other. Let us not allow economic and information challenges to make us lose empathy,” he said.
Boy also reminded the public to be wise in managing consumption patterns in the current economic situation.
“Prioritise basic needs over wants. Do not be provoked by panic, which will only lead us to hoard basic necessities excessively,” he said.
In addition, Boy invited the public to continue maintaining trust in state institutions as a foundation for national stability.
“Criticism is allowed, even necessary, but let us not lose all trust because that will open up more uncertainty,” he said.
He also highlighted the use of social media, which is considered increasingly influential in shaping public opinion.
“Use social media for positive things, to build, not to spread fear or hatred,” he said.
“Hoaxes are not just misinformation, but can be a trigger for conflict. We must be disciplined in verifying information,” he said.
The event was attended by a number of alumni of SMA 37 Jakarta who now work in various fields, including Expert Staff at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Iwan Suryana, Head of the Defence Maintenance and Repair Agency of the Ministry of Defence Rear Admiral TNI Supo Dwi Diantara, member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Nova Paloh, founder of the KedaiKOPI Survey Institute Hendri Satrio, and technology expert Abdul Satar.
