Boy killed as driver falls asleep

BEKASI (JP): A 10-year old boy was killed yesterday when the van carrying him and 10 family members overturned after hitting a railing at the Cikampek-Jakarta toll road.

The boy, Idris, was traveling with his family from Cilacap, Central Java, when the driver, Maman, fell asleep, leading to the tragic accident in the early hours of Tuesday.

The boy and his family were traveling to attend a cousin's wedding party.

Idris was thrown out of the roof of the car and killed instantly while the other passengers escaped with injuries. They are currently being treated at the Bekasi public hospital and UKI hospital in Jakarta.

At the Bekasi public hospital, Maman, who looked pale and weary, told The Jakarta Post that he was so tired and sleepy that he lost control of the car. (12/mds)
