Boy in Bogor Falls into Well While Fetching Ball, Firefighters Rescue Him
A nine-year-old boy fell into a 10-metre-deep well in Ciomas, Bogor, West Java. The victim, identified by the initials FA, survived after being evacuated by a fire and rescue team.
“Emergency assistance for the evacuation of a victim who fell into a well. The victim is named FA, aged 9,” said Yudi Santosa, Head of the Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Service, on Sunday (16/8/2026).
Yudi said the report was received when the victim was fetching a ball behind a resident’s house at around 3.50 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The report, he said, was immediately responded to by the rescue team from the Ciomas Sector Fire and Rescue Office.
“It began with a resident who saw the child trying to fetch a ball. Because he did not know there was a well, the child fell into it. Residents immediately called the fire and rescue office to ask for help with the evacuation,” said Yudi.
“The well has a depth of approximately 10 metres,” he added.
Video footage of the moment the fire and rescue team evacuated the victim went viral on social media. In the video, a firefighter can be seen preparing and making a special harness on his body to evacuate the victim.
Shortly afterwards, the officer descended into the well. In another video, the firefighter can be seen emerging from the well while holding the victim.
Yudi said the evacuation process proceeded safely and in an orderly manner. The victim was successfully evacuated in a safe condition and handed over to his family.
“The evacuation took 48 minutes. The victim was successfully evacuated in a safe condition,” said Yudi.
