Boy hangs himself

JAKARTA (JP): An elementary school student has been found hung dead in his house in West Jakarta.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said Thursday that 13-year-old Rizky had hung himself with a sarong in the attic of his house on Jl. Abdulloh, Sukabumi Selatan, West Jakarta.

Rizky's parents found the body of their eldest child hanging near the stairs around 21:00 p.m. Tuesday when they came home from work. Rizky's father, Asnawi, has a stall at the Cipulir market.

"A few days before the tragedy, Rizky had complained about a bad stomach," Aritonang quoted Asnawi as saying.

"It was hard for Asnawi's family to accept the reality that a child as young as Rizky could decide to end his life in such a tragic way," Aritonang added.

A police source said Rizky had told some neighbors that he doubted he would attend his school's final examinations because his family might not be able to afford the exam fees. (04/jun)
