Boxing Ring Inaugurated Under Pasar Rebo Flyover to Prevent Street Brawls

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo inaugurated a Boxing Ring Arena beneath the Pasar Rebo flyover in East Jakarta on Monday, as part of an effort to optimise urban spaces into productive and beneficial areas.

“The utilisation of the area under the Pasar Rebo Flyover is an effort to optimise urban space so that it becomes more useful for the community, while simultaneously providing a space for healthy activities and preventing activities that have the potential to disturb local peace,” Pramono stated at the site.

The boxing ring was constructed through community self-funding and has been in use since January 2026. The facility covers an area of 247 square metres, featuring a 9.5-metre by 9.5-metre arena, with training sessions supervised directly by professional boxing communities.

Pramono noted that the presence of such sports facilities has proven capable of channeling the energy of young people towards more positive pursuits. He mentioned that since the facility’s introduction, street brawls in the surrounding area have seen a significant decline.

“Hopefully, this will benefit the youth in East Jakarta so that their energy is channelled through places like this, making them more productive, reducing street fights, and hopefully, they can be involved in maintaining the peace of Jakarta,” Pramono added.

During the same event, local resident and boxing coach Sudirman, 54, expressed his appreciation for the new sports facility. He noted that the boxing arena is beneficial for residents, particularly in reducing the potential for brawls in the Pasar Rebo area and its surroundings.

“Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful. Brawls often occur here. With the presence of this boxing martial arts facility, brawls under the Pasar Rebo flyover and nearby areas have decreased, and we are also able to train,” said Sudirman.
