Bouraq Airlines gets 17 new routes

JAKARTA (JP): The government has allowed PT Bouraq Indonesia Airlines, a private airline, to add 17 new domestic and international routes in its services, a company executive said.

Benny Rungkat, vice president of Bouraq Indonesia Airlines, said the new routes includes those linking Surabaya in East Java with Taipei in Taiwan, Surabaya with Perth in West Australia, Surabaya with Singapore, Ujungpandang in South Sulawesi with Singapore, and Manado in North Sulawesi with Singapore.

Benny, concurrently also secretary-general of the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association, said that his company will cooperate with Taiwanese airlines, Eva Air and Trans Air, in serving the Surabaya-Taipei route beginning in October 1995, together with the operation of the Surabaya-Perth route.

He said Bouraq will start its first flight for the Surabaya- Singapore route on June 22 with Boeing 737s, which will provide five flights weekly.

Benny said that the air fare available in Indonesia is currently U.S 10.5 cents per seat for every kilometer, far lower than the 21 cents set by the International Civil Aviation Association.

State-owned Garuda Indonesia also gets 12 new routes this year, including those between Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra, Jakarta and Pekanbaru in Riau, Jakarta and Padang in West Sumatra and Jakarta and Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, Garuda's director, Koessoeyono, said recently.(32)
