Boundless Creativity of People with Disabilities at Denpasar ICD Event

The Denpasar City Government held the Indonesia Cinta Disabilitas (ICD) event to support disabled residents of Denpasar in expressing their creativity. A total of 40 tenants were empowered by people with disabilities. The event took place at Graha Nawasena Building, Denpasar City, on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara expressed pride that people with disabilities were able to showcase their creativity, ranging from culinary businesses to paintings. He also appreciated that a portion of the profits was donated to earthquake victims in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.

“But what makes me proud is that the sales proceeds will also be donated to NTT. Even though the donation is small, sales proceeds of Rp 20-30 thousand were collected into Rp 2 million for the victims in NTT,” said Jaya Negara when met at the location.

“Hopefully this will serve as motivation, encouragement, and an example for other cities,” continued Jaya Negara, who was accompanied by the Head of the Denpasar City Social Service, I Gusti Ayu Laxmy Saraswati.

Laxmy explained that one of the products, incense, is processed from used items such as newspaper, fabric scraps, and coffee grounds. “This incense can also be used as part of meditation. Leftover coffee is utilised for incense, which is extraordinary,” she added.

According to Laxmy, the products made by people with disabilities in Denpasar City are already worthy of being marketed nationally.

“We support this, especially now that the Ministry of Social Affairs is offering a venue, meaning it will be marketed professionally and may gain added value,” she said.

Regarding improving the value of products made by people with disabilities, Laxmy mentioned that the Denpasar City Government, through Dekranasda and Perumda Tirta Sewakarma, will launch exclusive SME products on 3 December 2026 that combine local Denpasar designs with paintings by people with disabilities.

“This is expected to provide motivation for people with disabilities to continue creating. It will push products into a broader market segment,” Laxmy concluded.
