Boundary Fences in Jakarta Malls: Pramono Ensures the Capital is Safe

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has addressed the recent installation of fences by mall managers across the capital. He requested that operators refrain from installing excessive boundary fences, suggesting that such measures are merely temporary responses driven by concerns over potential security disturbances.

Pramono stated that he will soon request the removal of fences installed in several malls, arguing that excessive apprehension can create a negative impression among the public. “Secondly, regarding the installation of fences, I have observed that this may be part of a larger concern. However, at the appropriate time, I will certainly ask for those fences to be removed again. Because excessive worry is not good,” Pramono said in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, on Friday (31/7).

He assured that the Jakarta Provincial Government, alongside the TNI, Polri, and other law enforcement agencies, continues to coordinate closely to maintain the security of the capital. Consequently, the public is urged not to be concerned when conducting activities or visiting public spaces.

“As the Governor of Jakarta, I am coordinating with the TNI, Polri, and other law enforcement agencies. We will protect Jakarta. Hopefully, Jakarta will always be safe, comfortable, and bring joy to anyone enjoying the city, just as we are all enjoying Blok M today,” he added.

When asked about the specific concerns referenced, Pramono linked them to situations that occurred in August last year, though he expressed optimism that similar incidents would not recur. “Yes, concerns similar to August last year. But hopefully not. I am confident they won’t,” Pramono asserted.
