Botanical garden's 179th anniversary

BOGOR, West Java (JP): The 179th anniversary of the Indonesian Botanical Garden will be celebrated today with a cleanliness campaign.

"Many visitors are not aware of the need to keep the garden clean. Rubbish is still found scattered in the garden," Sukendar, the chairman of the anniversary celebration committee, said yesterday.

Sukendar said a new regulation has been imposed which will cost litterers between Rp 5,000 (US$2.13) and Rp 50,000 in fines.

Sukendar said the garden currently has 4,500 species of flora. (21/jun)
