Bosnia offers help to build generator

ACEH: The government of Bosnia Herzegovina has offered help to build a power generator in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, to help the tsunami-ravaged province of Indonesia reduce its dependency on power supplies from North Sumatra.

H. Basrun Yusuf, an Acehnese legislator, said that the Bosnian government would send experts, currently working on the same project in Qatar and Kuwait, to Aceh to build a power generator using natural resources.

Basrun spoke to Antara on Saturday after a meeting with Bosnian Ambassador to Indonesia Murat Muhamed Ramadanovic, the Aceh office of the State Electricity Company (PLN) and the ministry of energy and mineral resources in the capital city of Banda Aceh.

"The power generator will use geothermal and coal as its energy sources. The Bosnians are interested to build here after seeing Aceh's poor electricity supply," he said.

The Bosnian ambassador told the Acehnese that the power generator would likely be enough to supply electricity to all of Aceh, Basrun said.

"They are waiting for proposals from the Aceh office of the energy and mineral resources ministry and PLN, to find out the funds required for the project," he said. -- JP
