Borobudur Temple Management Presents Educational Tourism During School Holidays
Magelang (ANTARA) - Borobudur Temple Tourism Park is welcoming the 2026 school holiday season by introducing a series of programmes under the theme ‘Comfortable and Meaningful Holidays’, blending cultural experiences, education, family recreation, and reflective journeys for tourists.
Speaking in Magelang, Central Java, on Tuesday, Gistang Panutur, Commercial Director of InJourney Destination Management (IDM), stated that various activities have been prepared to provide meaningful experiences, inviting visitors to recognise the richness of the cultural heritage, art, and noble values contained within Borobudur Temple.
He noted that this series of school holiday programmes is part of IDM’s efforts to provide experiences that enrich knowledge and build a closer connection between the community and cultural heritage.
“Borobudur Temple is not only a world architectural masterpiece but also a learning space that holds historical, cultural, and spiritual values. Through this series of school holiday programmes at Borobudur Temple, we want tourists to enjoy their holidays while getting to know Indonesia’s cultural richness more closely,” he said.
He mentioned that one of the flagship experiences offered is ‘Tanceping Niat’, a reflective journey that invites tourists to reconnect with themselves through the Unfinished Buddha statue. This programme serves as a space for tourists to enjoy moments of silence, express good intentions, and find a moment of release in a peaceful atmosphere. The Tancepit Niat programme will commence on 21 June 2026.
For families seeking educational holiday experiences for children, Borobudur Temple Tourism Park is also presenting the ‘Junior Wanderer Holiday Adventure: Family Fun Trip to Borobudur’.
This programme is designed as a cultural exploration journey that invites children to learn about the historical traces of Borobudur Temple and the natural landscapes that form part of the Borobudur area’s beauty. The programme will take place on 5 July 2026 with a ticket price of IDR 150,000, while parents only need to purchase standard Borobudur Temple entry tickets.
Additionally, cultural learning experiences will be available through the ‘Junior Wanderer Heritage Lab’, located at the Samudraraksa Ship Museum and the Karmawibhangga Museum. Tourists can participate in various workshops, such as wayang colouring, gamelan classes, and dance classes. Through this programme, tourists can engage in various creative activities every weekend from 27 June to 12 July 2026, with tickets available for direct purchase at IDR 45,000.
In addition to spiritual and reflective experiences, tourists can also enjoy cultural art performances through the ‘Tari Kidung Tribangga’ dance, held at the Plaza Beringin area of Borobudur Temple Tourism Park. This performance, which brings to life stories from the Borobudur reliefs, will be staged on 20 June, 26 June, and 5 July 2026 from 15:00 to 15:30 WIB.
The school holiday festivities are further enhanced by ‘Kampung Dolan’, a nostalgic space for traditional games that invites families and children to rediscover various iconic Indonesian games. Located in the Samudraraksa Ship Museum area, Kampung Dolan will run from 20 June to 16 July 2026. Through this activity, visitors will not only find entertainment but also experience the values of togetherness, creativity, and local wisdom inherent in traditional games.
He also stated that other art performances will be available through the ‘Pentas Seni Aneka Tari’ (Various Dance Art Performances) held at two different locations. In the Plaza Beringin area, tourists can witness the ‘Sendratari Geger Goa Kiskendo’ on 24 June 2026 and ‘Tari Menak Kontjer’ on 1 July 2026 from 15:00 to 15:30 WIB. Meanwhile, at the Borobudur Art Village Amphitheatre, visitors can enjoy the ‘Tari Warok Manunggal’ on 28 June 2026 and ‘Tari Topeng Ireng’ on 3 July 2026 at 15:00 WIB.
