Borneo Festival to be held

PALANGKA RAYA, Central Kalimantan: The city will host the
third Borneo Festival which is to be opened on May 22 by Minister
of Tourism, Arts and Culture Abdul Latief, Antara reported
yesterday.

"The festival aims to promote and preserve the traditional
culture of the island of Borneo," Hendrarto Martono, head of the
provincial administration's public relations section, said here
yesterday.

The event, which involves all four provinces on the Indonesian
part of the giant island, will also feature a handicraft
exhibition. Hendrarto added the event was timed to coincide with
the 41st anniversary of the province of Central Kalimantan, which
falls on May 23.
