Borneo FC Manager Expresses Concern Over Removal of U-23 Player Regulation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Borneo FC Samarinda manager Dandri Dauri has expressed his hope that young players will continue to find opportunities to compete following the decision to abolish the U-23 player regulation in the Super League for the upcoming season.
“Moving forward, once the U-23 regulation is removed, I hope there will still be space for young players to compete,” Dauri told the media following the ASEAN Club Championship 2026/2027 draw in Jakarta on Friday.
His comments were in response to queries regarding the policy by the operator of Indonesia’s professional league, I.League, to remove the rule requiring Super League clubs to field U-23 players.
Dauri noted that the removal of this regulation would undoubtedly impact the reduction of playing minutes for young players in the country. He suggested that if new competitions are introduced, such as the Indonesia Cup, they could serve as a vital platform for young talent.
“Regardless of the name of the competition, I believe it should serve as a space for young players,” he said. He added that providing such opportunities would allow clubs to manage their squads more effectively when facing multiple competitions simultaneously.
“It is not easy to maintain team strength and stability,” he remarked.
While noting that international tournaments such as the ASEAN Club Championship and the AFC Champions League remain a focus, he emphasised that the domestic league remains the priority. “It would be absurd if we succeeded in international tournaments but were relegated in our own country,” he added.
He concluded by stating that the Borneo FC management is currently preparing the squad’s strength, including considering potential player changes to face upcoming competitions.
