The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) post-Sumatra disaster continues to add borehole facilities to support the clean water needs of survivors of floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar).

Based on Satgas PRR data as of 31 March 2026, out of 1,490 boreholes planned to be built in the three affected areas, 958 have been completed and 548 others are under construction.

In Aceh, 728 out of 1,091 boreholes have been completed. In Sumut, the realisation is 135 out of 218 boreholes, while in Sumbar, 95 out of 181 boreholes have been finished.

The acceleration of borehole construction in the three affected areas is inseparable from cross-sectoral government cooperation, including the Indonesian National Army (TNI AD), Ministry of Public Works (PU), National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and Indonesian National Police (Polri).

Head of Satgas PRR post-Sumatra disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that accelerating borehole construction is important to meet the basic needs of disaster survivors.

This step aims to prevent health crises and help the recovery of survivors’ lives in Sumatra.

Tito also appreciated the cross-sectoral collaboration that has worked together to build clean water facilities.

“Thank you very much to PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Danantara, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), (who have initiated) the construction of boreholes and bathing, washing, and toilet facilities (MCK),” Tito said in a press release on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

For MCK, he continued, 80 percent has been provided. Nevertheless, many more boreholes are still needed because several drinking water pipe networks were severed due to floods and landslides.

The statement was delivered by Tito at the Ministerial Level Coordination Meeting on the Progress of Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction post-Natural Disaster in Aceh Province, Sumut, and Sumbar at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Jakarta, on Friday (27/2/2026).
