Representing the Deputy for Border Area Potential Management at BNPP RI, Assistant Deputy for Land Border Area Potential (Asdep PKPD) Brigadier General TNI Topri Daeng Balaw explained that the IPKP measurement is conducted to realistically capture border area development achievements and compile a comprehensive regional profile. The measurement results will serve as the basis for identifying strategic issues, challenges, and existing problems, as well as formulating the necessary interventions from relevant ministries and agencies. ‘This IPKP measurement and update aims to obtain a real-time overview of border area conditions, including sectors requiring strengthening through cross-ministerial and agency programmes,’ said Brigadier General Topri. During the assessment, the Asdep PKPD team identified several issues in border crossing services. In customs, an X-ray machine is needed at the departure terminal for export cargo inspections, which are currently conducted manually. Meanwhile, in immigration services, limited service space is affecting optimal operations, given that an average of 250 individuals are deported from Malaysia weekly. Brigadier General Topri also revealed plans to reactivate the autogate system at Entikong Border Crossing Point (PLBN), with two units each for arrivals and departures, to expedite immigration services. Additionally, immigration authorities are coordinating to reinstate cross-border passes to enhance services for border communities. In the health sector, the Health Quarantine Agency is working to improve monitoring of infectious diseases, though urgent support is needed for sample transportation infrastructure to facilitate further testing.
